Not all of Orchard’s assignments involve helping successful businesses grow. We have been asked by banks to look at clients who have got themselves into
financial difficulties and work with them to find a suitable way out of their problems.
One such business was a retailer that had got itself into financial difficulty by investing in other non-core business activities. It had exceeded its overdraft and loan facilities, and while the bank would not provide additional monies, it agreed not to seek repayment, if Orchard could demonstrate a route to repayment.
The core retail business was profitable and a purchaser was identified who could take this over. Orchard worked with the client and their lawyers to make the deal happen, ensure that the bank and other financial creditors were paid in full, and leave the client with cash to reorganise their affairs and focus on business activities more suited to their skillset.
